How will the primaries affect the Civic Coalition? How does PiS want to resolve the presidential candidate dilemma? Will Donald Trump's return to the international political scene help the Polish right, or will it become a problem for them sooner than anyone expected? – Michał Szułdrzyński and Michał Kolanko seek answers to these questions in the latest episode of the podcast "Polityczne Michałki". It is already known that the primaries in the Civic Coalition will be held on Friday 22 November. The results will be known after the end of the vote. In recent days, there has been a further escalation of tensions between Sikorski and Trzaskowski, or rather between their camps. - PO does not like the fact that people from outside, namely Roman Giertych and Michał Kamiński, are interfering in the party's affairs - said Michał Kolanko. And this may affect the result of the upcoming vote. As Michał Szułdrzyński notes, the decision on the primaries in the Civic Coalition "is the decision of the party leader. And it can be interpreted as his ceding responsibility”, but at the same time as the success of Radosław Sikorski’s political charge. Primaries bring consequences: opportunities and risks. – The mandate of the candidate from the primaries is stronger. However, Sikorski is driving the needles harder and harder, which raises concerns about PiS using his arguments later in the campaign – adds Kolanko. PiS and the choice of candidate – chaos or strategy? PiS is also struggling with the problem of choosing a candidate for president. The main contenders are Przemysław Czarnek, Tobiasz Bocheński and Karol Nawrocki. As Kolanko notes, “each of them has their advantages and disadvantages, but none of them is the ideal choice”. Czarnek, although the most experienced of the three, is controversial among the moderate electorate, while Nawrocki and Bocheński have to build their image almost from scratch. As Szułdrzyński noted, "KO's attempts to dominate media attention in the form of primaries forced PiS to consider announcing its candidate earlier than planned". However, the rivalry between the leaders of the PiS stake is still uncertain and may contribute to further destabilization of the party and further factional games. Donald Trump and the Polish right - risk or opportunity? The last part of the interview is devoted to Donald Trump's influence on PiS and Polish politics. "PiS has attached great importance to Trump's return, which makes them tied to him for better or for worse" - comments Kolanko. Both hosts wonder whether controversial personnel decisions of the new Trump administration, such as nominations of conspiracy theorists, may harm the Polish right - Being in close relations with Trump is a risk for PiS, especially if his decisions regarding the war in Ukraine are not to the Poles' liking - adds Kolanko. He admits, however, that Trump's potential visit to Poland before the presidential elections in May 2025 could be an important event that PiS will try to use for propaganda purposes.
