Before planting new palm groves, farmers must conduct a soil analysis to determine whether the soil is suitable for palm cultivation. Since the shoot part of the plant is susceptible to diseases and other pathogens, farmers are advised to use one-year seedlings when planting gardens, keeping the shoot part of the plant 5-8 cm above the soil. In this video, USAID Azerbaijan PSA agronomist Sahil Guliyev shares his recommendations for the successful establishment of new date palm plantations.
