In the podcast series Tussen Kunst en Misdaad (Between Art and Crime), crime fighters engage in conversation with artists and makers about how a performance, film or work of art can help build a bridge between citizens and the government. Theatre maker Sheralynn Adriaansz and filmmaker Julius Ponten lead these interesting conversations. In this episode, Robby Roks, Criminologist Erasmus University Rotterdam and Floris van Delft, Artistic Director WAT WE DOEN, discuss their collaboration on the research project FORT-PORT, which focuses on safety and resilience in the port of Rotterdam, and in which science and art meet. The port of Rotterdam is an important national economic engine that deals daily with the impact of internationally operating criminal networks that are active in the cocaine trade and human trafficking. We are dealing with ingenious logistics and increasingly younger 'extractors'. The drug economy is interwoven with our society, and connected to a world that also wants those drugs. Currently, astronomical amounts of money are being made available to tackle the many-headed monster of undermining and (drug) crime. But does the current approach have the desired effect? Or does it also have unwanted side effects?
