Our tour today is in POÇOS DE CALDAS / MG. We walked through the center and went to the MUNICIPAL MARKET. Located at an altitude of 1,210 meters, Poços de Caldas has the following geographic coordinates: Latitude: 21 ° 47' 18'' South, Longitude: 46 ° 33' 45'' West. Poços de Caldas is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Southeast Region of the country. It is located in the Immediate Region of Poços de Caldas and in the Intermediate Geographic Region of Pouso Alegre. According to an estimate by the IBGE for July 1, 2021, it has 169,838 inhabitants, being the 15th most populous municipality in the state and the most populous in the South of Minas. Poços de Caldas is on the edges of a volcanic caldera that has been extinct for 90 million years. The municipality is located on an elliptical plateau with an area of approximately 750 km², an average altitude of 1,300 m and gently undulating fields. It is surrounded by mountains with altitudes ranging from 1,600 m to 1,800 m. The soils have diverse geological characteristics. They are formed by extensive intrusion of alkaline rocks (nepheline syenites), surrounded by Archean formations. They are generally clayey, with small occurrences of sandstone and the presence of bauxite and refractory clay deposits. There are large reserves of ferrous, non-ferrous and radioactive minerals. The Poços de Caldas region is famous for its rural produce and in 1890 it realized the potential of creating a market that would concentrate all these products in a more accessible way for the urban population. Following a request from the City Council, the city's first market was founded. In 1903, a new building was opened in the city center: on the corner of Avenida Francisco Salles and Rua Assis Figueiredo. With an imposing façade and tower, the new market welcomed the products and was soon expanded to accommodate animals as well. Over time, the lack of parking and the large number of products suggested a change. And in 1969, the Poços de Caldas Municipal Market began operating at its current address: on Rua Pernambuco, also in the city center. The main external features of the old market building have been preserved. Today, a construction materials store operates on the site. The Poços de Caldas region is known for having good handicrafts and successful gastronomic products, and the Poços de Caldas Municipal Market brings together all of these delicacies! There are drinks, sweets, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and handicrafts that reflect the Minas Gerais way of life. The products are local, but the highlight is national. The Poços de Caldas Market offers the best products in this sector produced in Minas Gerais. The state is known for its high-quality cheeses and sweets. Some of the most popular sweets include fruit sweets such as guava jam, pumpkin jam, orange jam, papaya jam, fig jam, among others. Minas Gerais milk sweets can be made plain or with plum, chocolate, strawberry, passion fruit... There are many good options! The cheeses found at the Poços Market are also varied: from those found on every coffee table to the most awarded in the state. There are small gourds, small knots, Minas cheeses, Canastras and many others. It is worth asking for suggestions and information from the staff at the stalls, who know these products very well. We really enjoyed this tour and recommend it to everyone. A good entertainment for you!!!
