In the Sibiu commune of Poplaca, the Muntean family makes a living from the mushroom business. The parents, Maria and Ion, are the ones who started the business, and today, the sons Claudiu and Gabriel have taken over most of the responsibilities of the farm. Ciupercaria from Poplaca was established in 2003, when Ion Muntean wanted to lay the foundations of a business that would ensure the livelihood of the whole family. He bought a book about mushrooms and slowly began to produce handicrafts. The first mushrooms were given to friends and only later did the sales start. The most important investment at the mushroom farm was the optimization of heating costs. The entire production flow is divided for maximum labor efficiency. Thus, in the farm, each stage of mushroom production has its own dedicated space. Recently, the mushroom farm in Poplaca took the step towards processing. It started with pickled mushrooms, and now other recipes are being considered to help capitalize on overproduction. Although they might never have thought that they would own a mushroom farm, Ion, Maria, Claudiu and Gabriel are proud of what they have achieved together. The business is successful because, within it, each member of the family has assumed responsibilities starting from the production process and ending with the sales and development strategy. Only in this way was it possible for the Poplaca mushroom farm to become a strong brand, a brand that the Muntean family wants to develop as much as possible.
