[00:00:00] About the Author [00:01:59] Atlantis [00:06:34] Introduction [00:16:00] Dialogue of Critias with Timaeus, Socrates and Hermocrates [01:09:42] End and Acknowledgements Critias or On Atlantis is one of Plato's last dialogues. It seems to be a continuation of The Republic and the Timaeus, it is unfinished and its content describes the war between pre-Hellenic Athens and Atlantis, a hypothetical western empire and mysterious island described by the sophist Critias. He maintains that Atlantis existed in a very remote time, and places it "beyond the pillars of Hercules." This mythological island was swallowed by the sea and lost forever. The content of the unfinished dialogue refers to the geography and political organization of the opposing forces, which is evident in the case of Athens, but not in Atlantis, which has been the subject of multiple hypotheses throughout history. In an attempt to understand its hidden verifiability and eternal hermeticism, approaches have been elucidated that range from the approximate consideration of Plato's literality to the most varied location, even considering the existence of multiple Atlantides. Without excluding, however, the criticism based on judging the work compiled by Solon as a product of symbolism, mythology, or the historical projection of the world of the ideas of its author.
