The Republic (Politeia, πολιτεία) is one of the central and foundational philosophical texts of the Western tradition. In this book, Plato reflects on the concept of justice, the idea of good, human knowledge, the organization of society, the state, the education of young people, the role of poetry and art in general, and many other related topics. Book I opens this adventure through a dialogue involving Socrates, Polemarchus, and Cephalus, in which the ethical question begins to be explored, in particular: how it is best to live life, and whether it is better to be just or unjust. This video is the first of a series of 10 videos in which we will develop the content of the 10 books of The Republic.
