SBT News reporter and tax lawyer Victor Bastos discuss the provisional measure (MP) published by the federal government, which prohibits the charging of additional fees or charges for payments made via Pix. The MP, which is already in effect, establishes that suppliers who demand higher amounts for cash payments via Pix will be committing an abusive practice, subject to penalties provided for in the Consumer Protection Code. In addition, the measure requires that suppliers clearly inform consumers about the prohibition of additional charges. The Central Bank will be responsible for regulating and ensuring the security of the Pix infrastructure, including the protection of users' personal data. The measure was adopted after a series of fake news and complaints about Pix on social media. The MP will need to be approved by Congress within 120 days, otherwise it will lose its validity.
