The series was largely filmed in Sweden and started with one season of 13 episodes, the first of which was broadcast on February 8, 1969. The role of Pippi Longstocking was played by Inger Nilsson. After the first season, the series was edited and released in 1969 as two feature films in theaters: Pippi Longstocking and Pippi goes ashore. These films were followed by two sequels in 1970: Pippi in Taka-Tukaland and Pippi puts the lot on stilts. These films were then edited into eight episodes that were broadcast in 1970 and 1971 as the second season of the television series, which ran from 1969 to 1971. In the Netherlands, the television series was broadcast for the first time in 1972 by the NOS, except for one episode. Paula Majoor provided the Dutch voice of Pippi at the time. Wim Povel was responsible for the dubbing of this television series and accompanying films in Dutch.
