When Edo's population was 1 million, 200,000 people visited Mt. Oyama annually for the "Oyama Pilgrimage." The "Oyama Pilgrimage" has been passed down through the generations by the guide priests (oshi), and even today you can see the Oyama Ko group dressed in white robes.
