A great event for the city and the region as a whole! Mykolaiv high-flying is an outstanding Ukrainian breed of high-flying pigeons with a unique non-circling flight. One of the versions of the origin of this breed: at the end of the 19th century in the city of Mykolaiv by crossing foreign pigeons brought here by sailors, which had the makings of today's Mykolaiv ones, with local birds with targeted selection and selection for their characteristic flight. The formation of the breed was undoubtedly greatly influenced by the local climatic conditions of the Black Sea coast - a warm, dry climate, stable fresh winds with ascending air currents. The characteristic features of Nikolaev pigeons are a streamlined body shape, abundant, thick, tightly fitting plumage, wide, elastic and resilient feathers of the wings and tail, which form a large supporting surface during the pigeon's flight, very mobile wings and tail, allowing this surface to be adjusted depending on the strength and direction of the air flow. A strong, but not coarse skeleton, well-developed, powerful muscles make them strong and hardy in flight. All these qualities allow the Nikolaev pigeon to rise up without circling, to reach a very high altitude in a short time, disappearing from sight, and to remain in flight for a long time. With the correct maintenance regime and regular training, they can withstand 7-9 hours or more in flight. Nikolaev pigeons usually fly alone, separately, independently of each other, having risen to a great height, they sometimes soar like an eagle with outstretched wings, sometimes flutter like butterflies or larks, Tortse pigeons rise and fall almost strictly vertically, in a sharply limited space with a diameter of 1.5 to 4 meters above the house, they hold their wings in front of them above their heads, the body is turned towards the air flow and occupies an almost vertical position. These are typically "wind" pigeons, requiring a fresh wind (7-10 m / sec) for their correct flight. Among modern Nikolaev pigeons, butterflies and larks are most common, tortse pigeons are quite rare. Nikolaev pigeons are distinguished by a lively, energetic temperament, high viability, easily adapt to various climatic conditions, are undemanding to the conditions of detention and food, fertile, hatch and feed chicks well. Breeding them is not difficult and is available to a wide range of fans, they are widespread and popular both in our country and abroad, but they show their best flying qualities in the conditions of their native land or close to them, they require systematic training and strict adherence to the maintenance and feeding regime. Young ones should be driven from 1.5-2 months of age, when they go out on the roof and begin to flutter. With long breaks in flights and a late start of the rut, young pigeons sit for a long time and then it is difficult to drive them away. In long and high flights, especially in unfavorable weather, Nikolaevskie often get lost. They are carried far from home by the wind or powerful air currents and do not find the way home, sometimes returning on the second or third day. The best time for flights is early morning, night flights are also practiced, when pigeons rise in the evening after sunset and descend in the morning, but they must be accustomed to such flights, otherwise large losses are inevitable. General appearance The pigeon is of medium size or slightly larger, the total length is 38-40 cm, the body is elongated, broad-chested with well-developed muscles, the stance is inclined, at an angle of approximately 40-45 degrees, the landing is low on short unfeathered legs, the plumage is abundant, thick, tightly adjacent to the body.
