In a small village nestled at the foot of the Gran Sasso National Park, in Abruzzo, Piero lives and works, a shepherd who every day takes care of a flock of about 250 sheep. They are part of his life: he accompanies them to pasture when he is in the mountain pastures, he takes care of them, he looks after them but above all he protects them from a large predator, the most cunning, crafty and infallible of all: the wolf. But Piero is not like many other shepherds. For him, the wolf is love and hate: he has to face many expenses to maintain the guard dogs that protect the flock from the predations of wolf packs but, at the same time, he is aware that the wolf is essential for the balance of the ecosystem, it is in its territory, in its habitat and there it must remain. With this short documentary I have collected some of Piero's testimonies during two days in the mountain pastures, up and down the pastures among the sheep and shepherds of Abruzzo. Piero is not a shepherd like all the others: he is one of the few true guardians of the delicate balance between man and wolf.
