The star guest: the pianist Alexandre Kantorow. The French up-and-comer, who has been known worldwide since his appearance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, is performing several concerts in Hamburg this season as a portrait artist. Alexandre Kantorow is celebrating the start of his residency this evening with Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini". Composed for solo piano and orchestra, the exuberant work in 24 variations captivates with lavish splendor, lush timbres and breathtaking virtuosity that truly do the legendary "devil's violinist" Paganini proud. Under the direction of the Russian conductor Tugan Sokhiev, the musicians will also present the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky's successful opera "Eugene Onegin" and, with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherzade", one of the greatest orchestral hits in music history. In sound-painting movements and with oriental-inspired sounds, the composer transports his audience into the sensual fairytale world of "1001 Nights". #ElbphilharmonieStreams #Hamburg #tchaikovsky #rachmaninov #rimskykorsakov #kantorow ––––––––––– ELBPHILHARMONIE HAMBURG In the Elbphilharmonie, architecture and music combine to create an incomparable overall experience.
