Dates are produced by date palms – a term originating from the Hebrew language – or date palms, palm trees widely grown to produce fruits that can be consumed as food. They are red in color, interwoven with fibers and have a sweet and sour taste. The word date means finger of light, due to their elongated shape, measuring 3-7 cm in length and 2-3 cm in diameter.
