The periodic table of elements is one of the most influential concepts in the history of science and the cornerstone of contemporary culture and education. UNESCO declared 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table of Elements. It's a good excuse to think. What exactly is the periodic table? Where does it end and where does it begin? Can it still change? If we didn't know it, would we have invented it anyway? In the lecture, we will look at these and other questions. We won't completely avoid history, but the core of the lecture will be the PTP today and tomorrow. Prof. RNDr. Petr Slavíček, Ph.D. was born in 1976 in Olomouc. He completed his bachelor's degree at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague, his master's degree at the Faculty of Science at Charles University, and his doctoral degree at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois in the USA with Professor Todd Martínez. He defended his professorial title at the University of Chemical Technology in Prague. He has lectured as a visiting professor at three universities in France. At the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague, he deals with theoretical chemistry, radiation chemistry and photochemistry. He also closely cooperates with the Jaroslav Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Since 2007, he has been a member of the editorial board of Vesmír. He contributed to the book "Mysteries, keys, curiosities through the eyes of physical chemistry" (2013), the main author of which is Ivona Malijevská. In 2016, he received the Neuron Prize.
