In the 1980s, he was one of the biggest stars of Czechoslovak pop music, and his popularity, especially among young girls, was even called "nagymania" at the time. However, this native of Prešov surprisingly grew up on folk music and was especially influenced by singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan when he was growing up. Later, however, he absorbed the influences of rock, pop, ska and reggae and with hits such as Professor Indigo or Poďme sa začiť became one of the main faces of the Slovak pop miracle of the 80s. In On Air, he also recalled his work for children, for example the album Peter, Vašo a Beáta detom, but also a duet with Jožo Ráž or the song Taxis, which was probably the first Slovak rap song officially released.
