Monika Podsiadło was raised in Lublin in a family that grew its own fruit and vegetables. After the transformation from communism to capitalism, a decline in the quality of food was noticeable in stores. Food tasted different than in childhood and contained less nutritional value. Looking for a different way of life, while still a student, she moved to the countryside to live in an artistic community, where, together with her then partner, shortly after his return from Scotland from an ecovillage in Findhorn, she founded the first permaculture habitat in Poland in the Lublin region. There, they created a space for enthusiasts, travelers, gardeners from all over the world who came to learn and exchange ideas for a healthy life in harmony with nature. In 2017, Monika bought a 10-hectare plot in Podlodówek, where she is building another permaculture paradise and continues to spread practical permaculture knowledge as the Educational Center Permaculture Gardens. Surrounded by forest, the Centre is regularly visited by many people from all over the world, who come to learn from Monika and experience this unique place. More than 5 years after she began caring for the new area, this film is a documentary and inspiring portrait of Monika's history and philosophy of gardening, food sovereignty and biodiversity in an increasingly globalizing world. Monika is an expert in growing edible and medicinal plants. She runs a seed bank containing hundreds of old varieties of vegetables and herbs. Deeply concerned about the constant decline in biodiversity, she encourages the preservation of seeds of old varieties of edible plants. In addition to cultivating her own garden, she regularly conducts workshops and lectures, designs and provides consultations on gardens and habitats throughout Poland.
