The Bratislava Self-Governing Region plans to revitalize a large and unused plot of land on Patrónka in Bratislava with rich cultural and historical value. In cooperation with a private partner, a unique and modern center will be created here, where social, cultural and educational institutions will find their space. The project includes not only the renovation of buildings, but also a functionally designed public space and greenery. New pedestrian connections will be created there and the Vydrica River will also be uncovered. "The entire area on Patrónka has significant cultural and historical value. There used to be a patrónka factory here, which was booming at the end of the 19th century. Today, most of the buildings are neglected. In cooperation with a private partner, we decided to revitalize this entire area. A project will be created here that is unparalleled in Bratislava and probably not even in Slovakia. We have moved forward in preparing the project. Today, we have a specific intention, solution and visualizations. A new school will be built here, sports fields will be revitalized, a generous public space will be created, and a Holocaust memorial will also be added,” BSK Chairman Juraj Droba explained the project’s intention. The key idea of the project is the integration of various functions within one area. Educational spaces, sports fields, and recreational zones are designed to create a harmonious whole. “It is very important for us that this area comes to life. That it is an open area that will serve all residents of the Bratislava region. So we are not just going to reconstruct, repair, and modify buildings, but we are going to comprehensively revitalize the entire area. The individual parts will be interconnected, the functions will fit together. We are pleased that we have found an investor for this ambitious plan, because without such input, we would not be able to implement the project,” emphasized BSK Office Director Patrícia Mešťan. As she further noted, Bratislava needs to revitalize such spaces, bring solutions for these places and needs synergies of the old with the new, and this is what the county came up with. "By incorporating the existing Social Services Center, which is located here in line with the future concept, a project was created that will have not only local, but also supra-city significance."
