Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay fought an all-out war against Paraguay, also known as the War of the Triple Alliance or the Great War. In five years of fighting, it is estimated that 50,000 Brazilians lost their lives, out of the 139,000 who went to war. The male population of Paraguay was practically decimated. Caminhos da Reportagem tells the story of this campaign, which is now remembered in squares, streets and monuments that many people pass by without realizing it. Scholars from the four countries analyze the war and its consequences, which were drastic for both the victors and the vanquished. The team visits the Coimbra Fort in Mato Grosso do Sul, which was taken by the Paraguayans at the beginning of the war. In Paraguay, the program covers the sites where the main battles took place, such as Tuyuti and Humaitá. It shows the ships that participated in the historic Battle of Riachuelo, enters the open trenches of Curupaiti and meets an archaeologist who collects objects related to the conflict. For Paraguayans, it is impossible to ignore the traces of this great war, so forgotten by Brazilians.
