The Caminho da Fé in Brazil is inspired by the Camino de Santiago de Compostela between Spain and France. It is traveled by pilgrims, cyclists and horseback riders, starting in the city of Águas da Prata - SP, entering and leaving several times in MG, and continuing to the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Aparecida - SP. It is about 320 kilometers in the mountains, crossing the Serra da Mantiqueira on back roads, trails, woods and very little asphalt, providing moments of reflection and faith, physical health and integration of man with nature. Information: www.caminhodafe.com.br There was no one to help. It was just me. I would never go back. That's because I had already crossed many hills. Staying still could be worse. Night would fall and I would still be on the hills and in the woods. The risks would increase. What was left for me was exactly what had to be done: even without energy in my body, but with my mind increasingly in harmony and stabilized, I had to move forward, step by step, pedal stroke by pedal stroke. It was the best thing to do, and that's what I did. After five days, 320 km, more than 6,600 meters of elevation gain, more than 22 hours of cycling, a lot of reflection, conversations with God and myself, the miracle happened. God showed his power: not a single tire had gone flat during the entire bike trip. I descended more than 25 km of the Serra between Campos do Jordão and Aparecida. While recording the video of the finish line, in front of the Aparecida sanctuary, the valve of the inner tube of the front tire simply broke. Something that if it had happened hours earlier, during the descent of the Serra, could have cost me my life. Caminhos da Fé was introduced to me by the videos of pilgrims and cyclists who had already completed the route. I decided that I needed some time to myself. A bike trip that only I could do. It had to be me alone. Not out of selfishness, but for the challenge, self-knowledge, and overcoming. I bought a bus ticket from Itajaí to São Paulo and on the night of the trip, with only 50 minutes to go, I decided not to board. The fear of the unknown that lay ahead, and the distance from the comfort and safety of home, scared me. Not anymore. I am much stronger and more fearless. Whoever makes this journey and completes the 320 km will never be the same person again. We left there much stronger, confident and believing in the existence of the powerful God. The next day, after a restless night, I decided that I had to overcome all of this. I boarded at 9 pm in Itajaí, with the bike disassembled only the front wheel, and I had no problems with the Catarinense bus company. I arrived in São Paulo at 7 am. I immediately bought a ticket from the Cometa bus company from São Paulo to Águas da Prata, a city where I arrived at 1 pm, also without any problems transporting the bike. Right there, at the bus station, I assembled the bike and started pedaling. The rain came down hard since the state of Minas Gerais was under National Civil Defense alert. Dozens of cities were severely affected. After the first afternoon of cycling, amidst hills and heavy rain, a rash caused me pain when I walked or cycled. I spent five days alone in the Serra da Mantiqueira, cycling the approximately 320 km from Águas da Prata to Aparecida. I needed a lot of strength, reflection, communion with God, overcoming fears and challenges since I had no power over the weather or nature. I could not go backwards. I could only move forward. No matter what lay ahead. On the last day, during the video of the arrival, God spoke to me in the form of a warning that is in the last video. I met wonderful people along the way. Between cycling, naps on park benches and stops at inns, I listened to and recorded pleasant conversations with their strong Minas Gerais accents. I will never again be the same Rubens who started the trail in Águas da Prata and left in Aparecida five days later.
