The fourth episode of the Parques do Brasil series presents an expedition through three conservation units in the south of Bahia. In the first block, we head to Porto Seguro, where the Pau Brasil National Park is located. The park protects one of the last fragments of the Bahian tableland forest, one of the most biodiverse forests on the planet. There we see the muçununga, an environment with different species of bromeliads and many birds such as the red-headed antbird, the red-tailed hummingbird and the blue-cheeked hummingbird. In this park we also discover one of the last strongholds of a species that is part of the country's history: the brazilwood. In the park, there is a brazilwood tree that is over a thousand years old. In the first block we see a multitude of birds such as the black-headed wren, the striped tanager, the spotted tanager, the brown antbird and the powerful harpy eagle; and also shy and endangered animals such as the tapir, the puma, the marsupial, the red brocket, the red brocket and the jaguar. In the second section, we climbed a mountain range full of beautiful waterfalls and visited the Serra das Lontras National Park. In this little-known place, we found forests with unique trees such as the inhaíba, copaíba and araçá. A bird that was only identified in 1996 lives in this mountain range: the acrobat. The Serra das Lontras is a mountain range where several rivers and streams originate. Following the Una River, we descended to another important fragment of tableland forest: the Una Biological Reserve. Rare animals such as the golden-faced lion tamarin, the Wied's marmoset, the black hedgehog, the guigó and the yellow-breasted capuchin monkey live there. All these units are part of the Discovery Coast, declared a Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
