Speaker: Guilherme Galante (PPGComp - Unioeste) Lecture summary: Current computer architectures feature several levels of parallelism. This has allowed a substantial increase in application performance, but not without a corresponding increase in program complexity, which now must also consider issues such as communication, synchronization, and load balancing. This lecture presents a brief introduction to parallel computing, exploring the particularities of developing parallel applications and the possibilities of exploiting parallelism in different architecture models, from multicore to GPUs. Bio: Guilherme Galante holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the State University of Western Paraná (2003), a Master's degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2006), and a PhD from the Federal University of Paraná (2014). He has been a Professor of Computer Science at the State University of Western Paraná since 2006 and of the Postgraduate Program in Computing (PPGComp) since 2019. His areas of activity are: Computer Systems and Applied Computing. Tutor of the PETComp group since December 2022.
