The first episode of the third season of the Parques do Brasil series presents the Pantanal Matogrossense National Park. The first block of the episode tells the story of an expedition carried out in November, at the beginning of the rainy season, when the Paraguay River was still at its lowest level. In this first part, we crossed the Transpantaneira, went down the Cuiabá River, visited the Serra do Amolar and went to Baía Gaíva, on the border with Bolivia. On the way back, we met a family of giant otters and climbed the Morro do Caracará. Inside the park, we also visited some archaeological sites, with inscriptions on the rocks created by prehistoric peoples. In the second block, we returned to the park in July, in the middle of winter and the dry season. At this time, the vegetation is very dry, but the water level was still high. Because of this, we were able to cross the creeks to see paradisiacal lagoons and glimpse the Victoria regias. In this section, we will present stories about the parakeets, the blue-fronted parrot, the baguari, the tuiuiú, the capybara, the jaguar, the Pantanal caiman, the red-headed duck and the wild duck. Returning along the Transpantaneira, we will meet the royal curicaca and the hyacinth macaw. On the web, we will present a different version, with more stories about this paradisiacal place, considered a Natural Heritage of Humanity. The Parques do Brasil series is produced through a partnership between EBC, Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/FIOCRUZ and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation – ICMBio.
