First of all, you will need to check with the central rearview mirror, but then above all with the left side mirror, that there are no vehicles coming from behind that are faster than us. In any case, the mirrors must be checked regularly while driving, and on any type of road: it will always be useful for our safety to know what is happening behind us as well as in front of us, obviously. If faster vehicles are coming from behind, we will let them pass, postponing the overtaking maneuver that we intend to perform for the necessary time. When everything is calm behind us, we will turn on the left indicator to warn of our intention to move into the overtaking lane. It will be appropriate, although not mandatory, to warn the vehicle in front of us of our intention to overtake by flashing the high beams. It is then very important to start the overtaking maneuver well in advance, that is, maintaining a correct safety distance from the vehicle in front of us and that we want to overtake. The lateral movement must also be linear and not sudden, so we will have to turn the steering wheel very little, almost nothing, you will see that it will be enough, and very delicately in fact, since at these speeds it is enough to move the steering a little more than necessary to have sudden and dangerous skids of the vehicle. We will then move completely into the overtaking lane, and here we will have to turn off the indicator, which will no longer be needed. By being careful to maintain a correct lateral safety distance from the vehicle we are overtaking, but also from the guard rail on our left, we will perform the actual overtaking maneuver. The first few times you may have the feeling of having very little space available to overtake, your heartbeat will become faster, but once you have practiced a bit you will get used to it and you will understand that in reality there is more than plenty of space. Now we have arrived at the re-entry phase. We must be careful not to move too early to the right, otherwise we will run the risk of cutting across the road or even hitting the vehicle we have just overtaken. The re-entry can be done safely when, in the central rear-view mirror, you begin to see the outline of the vehicle you have just overtaken. Once you have framed the vehicle you have just overtaken in the central mirror, we will also take a look at the right side mirror for safety, turn on the right direction indicator and always return linearly to the lane, i.e. the right lane. We will then turn off the indicator and the overtaking will be concluded. By doing the overtaking maneuver in this way, you will be sure to do it correctly and in complete safety.
