The global phenomenon of over-indebtedness is the focus of this week's Entender Direito. The topic was detailed in an interview with jurist and law professor Claudia Lima Marques and São Paulo State Attorney General and law professor Roberto Augusto Castellanos Pfeiffer, both members of a committee established in the Federal Senate and chaired by Superior Court of Justice (STJ) Minister Herman Benjamin to update the Consumer Defense Code (CDC). In the program hosted by journalist Fátima Uchôa, the two experts highlighted Law 14,181/2021, called the Consumer Over-indebtedness Law, which was conceived by the committee of jurists after years of studies and research, resulting in changes to provisions set forth in the CDC and the Elderly Statute (Law 10,741/2003). Entender Direito is a biweekly program, focusing on relevant issues in the legal and academic fields, and features leading Brazilian jurists and scholars. Watch the interview on TV Justiça on Wednesdays at 10 am, with reruns on Saturdays at 2 pm and Tuesdays at 10 pm. It is also available on the STJ YouTube channel. On Rádio Justiça (104.7 FM – Brasília), the program is presented for the first time on Saturdays at 7 am, with reruns on Sundays at 11 pm. It is also available on the main podcast platforms, such as Spotify.
