The results of the 2018 PISA study were published at the beginning of December 2019. 15-year-olds were tested worldwide, primarily on their reading skills. All the headlines are now about whether students in the Federal Republic of Germany perform better or worse than their peers in other countries. But should we only learn in school what the PISA study asks? Isn't it becoming more and more important to educate young people in interpersonal skills, empathy and social skills? And how can this be achieved? STEM skills alone do not necessarily make people empathetic. In education policy, the focus is often on the later economic benefits of school education, on performance and measurable comparisons. People like to refer to the education reformer Wilhelm von Humboldt, but do not act in the spirit of enlightenment. The video deals with the questions of why school strikes for the climate can be education in terms of democracy, why it is becoming more and more important to teach social skills and to educate in the spirit of the common good. And that the gap between children of rich and poor parents must not widen any further.
