Turbid water with sand is a real headache for owners of wells on sandy soils. Let's figure out what causes this unpleasant situation. Why does water with sand come out of a well on sand? Common mistakes in well and pumping equipment installation? Here are some common reasons why wells on sand can give water with sand (sand): 1) Incorrect filter selection. For sandy rocks, a special filter with small cracks is needed, which does not allow small particles of sand to pass through. When using a filter with large holes, sand will get into the well. 2) Incorrect pump selection. Too intensive water extraction. If you pump water with a pump with high capacity, the speed of water movement in the formation increases, and it carries away sand particles. 3) Violation of the tightness of casing pipes or filter. Sand gets into the well through cracks in pipes and leaks in connections. To avoid these problems, you need to correctly select and install a filter, pumping equipment, tightness of all connections and regular maintenance of the well. In our case, the reason for sand getting into the water were two errors during the installation of pumping equipment: 1) An excessively powerful pump with a capacity of about 4 cubic meters per hour was installed. Such intensive water extraction created an increased flow rate in the formation, which led to the destruction of the sand structure and the entrainment of sand particles into the water. 2) This powerful pump was placed in the filter operating area. Due to the proximity to the filter, the water velocity at its openings increased sharply, which also provoked the removal of sand particles into the well. The pump worked like a vacuum cleaner. To solve the problem, it was necessary to conduct a video diagnostics of the well to identify the cause, clean the well from sand, install a pump with a lower capacity, optimal for this type of formation. And place the pump above the filter zone in the well. These measures allowed us to restore the well to normal operation. In the future, it is imperative to take into account the geology and select pumping equipment in accordance with it, so as not to disrupt the natural water exchange in the formation.
