This is moka studio2020. This video introduces Osaka Castle during the Toyotomi period. The magnificent Osaka Castle that we can see today was not built by Hideyoshi, but was built by the Edo Shogunate on the land that Hideyoshi had built. However, until after the war, it was long believed that the stone walls of Osaka Castle were those of Osaka Castle built by Hideyoshi. With the progress of postwar investigations, the appearance of Osaka Castle has become much clearer. In this video, we will introduce Osaka Castle during the Toyotomi period built by Hideyoshi. Unlike the mountain castles and flatland castles that had existed until then, Osaka Castle was the first huge castle built on flat land, and its amount of civil engineering was overwhelming, even surpassing Azuchi Castle. Castles that preceded Nobunaga's castle during the Sengoku period also had stone walls, but they were mainly used to ensure a flat surface, and there were no backfill stones, and they were more like retaining walls. Nobunaga built stone walls that made it possible to build buildings on top, and Hideyoshi developed them further. The Honmaru was a castle built in the Azuchi-Momoyama period, with a clearly separated front palace and inner palace. It was a groundbreaking castle for its time, but after the Summer Siege of Osaka, the Edo Shogunate completely reclaimed it, and a huge castle even larger than the Toyotomi-period Osaka Castle was completed on top of it. The Toyotomi-period Osaka Castle is now in deep slumber, but preparations are currently underway for the opening of the Tsume-no-maru stone walls in 2025.
