With approximately 3.5 km in length and 287 thousand m² of area, it extends through the following neighborhoods: Centro, Gamboa and Saúde. The waterfront was gradually inaugurated between 2015 and 2017, occupying the area that was previously under the Elevado da Perimetral, in addition to replacing part of Avenida Rodrigues Alves. Its opening put an end to 252 years of restricted access to a stretch of the waterfront for military personnel from the 1st Naval District. The public promenade, located between Warehouse 8 at Cais da Gamboa and Largo da Misericórdia, passes through several cultural sites, four of which were built precisely to promote the region as a hub for entertainment and tourism: the Rio Art Museum (MAR), AquaRio, Mural Etnias and the Museum of Tomorrow. Several squares are part of the waterfront, including Praça Mauá and Praça XV. In addition to new cultural spaces, the waterfront also gained infrastructure to adapt to its mission as a tourist area, receiving the installation of 206 LED lighting posts, the placement of 153 benches and the planting of 463 trees, in addition to the installation of electric rails for the allocation of four stops of the VLT Carioca: Utopia AquaRio, Parada dos Navios/Valongo, Parada dos Museus and Praça XV. The name of the waterfront is a tribute to Luiz Paulo Conde, former mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro and former vice-governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The mayor of Rio de Janeiro at the time of its naming, Eduardo Paes, chose the name for the boulevard due to the fact that Conde was, for Paes, the great inspiration for the urban transformations that occurred during his first two terms as mayor of Rio. Praça XV, along with Praça Marechal Âncora and Largo da Misericórdia, were incorporated into the public promenade on May 29, 2016 after being revitalized by an urban project that pays homage to the old Praça XV Fish Market. Totaling 77,978 m² and 777 meters long, the squares have a total of 360 m² of wooden decks and 50,000 m² of granite, including 161 benches and 27 trash cans. Largo da Candelária, where one of the pyres that received the Olympic Flame during the 2016 Summer Olympics is located, was reopened to the public on August 5, 2016. With 42,463 m², it was the last stretch of Orla Conde to be opened in 2016, making it possible to travel, on foot or by bicycle, between Aterro do Flamengo and Warehouse 8 at Cais da Gamboa. In its surroundings, there are: Igreja da Candelária, a Catholic temple that was the scene of the Comício da Candelária and the Chacina da Candelária; Casa França-Brasil, a center for the dissemination of culture and a reference in contemporary art; the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, a cultural center managed by Banco do Brasil; the Navy Cultural Space, which houses part of the Brazilian Navy's collection; and the Correios Cultural Center, a cultural center managed by the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company. The first section of Orla Conde was opened on September 6, 2015, with the reopening of Praça Mauá, which, in addition to being revitalized, had its area expanded from 4,000 m² previously to 25,000 m². Revitalized after the demolition of the Perimetral Elevated Highway, the square now has 5 flower beds, 80 benches, 58 trees and 50 lampposts. Praça Mauá is crossed by a 560-meter stretch of tracks where the VLT Carioca trains run.[11] In the center of the square, there is a statue of Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, the Baron of Mauá. The statue, the work of Brazilian sculptor Rodolfo Bernardelli, is 2.6 meters tall, weighs 800 kg and is supported by a 4.5 meter high column. In its surroundings are: the Museum of Tomorrow, a museum designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and located on the Mauá Pier; the Rio Art Museum (MAR), composed of two buildings connected by a suspended walkway; the Joseph Gire Building, the former headquarters of the evening newspaper A Noite; the Museum Stop, which allows passengers to board and disembark from the VLT Carioca trains; among other buildings ---- ORLA MAYOR LUIZ PAULO CONDE: Walking on the busy boulevard in the center of Rio de Janeiro - RJ Orla Prefeito Luiz Paulo Conde, popularly known as Orla Conde or Olympic Boulevard, is a promenade located in the Central Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, on the banks of Guanabara Bay #centrorj #riodejaneirobrazil #museudoamanha
