December 15! Oravitsa - Anina, the first mountain railway! From Oraviţa to Anina, a three-car train takes you on a railway full of history, the first mountain railway in Romania. Due to the complexity of the relief and the numerous works of art, the Oravița-Anina railway is also nicknamed the "Bănățean Semering" The train conductor carries old photo albums in his bag, his knowledge of history is quite vast, and his enthusiasm and satisfaction to please the tourists are even bigger. From Oraviţa, the railway runs north and northeast. After three stone viaducts from the year 1854, it crosses the narrow valleys of the Gârliștei Mountains (Anina Mountains) subdivision of the Banat Mountains, stopping at the first stop Brădisoru de Jos before passing by a uranium mine. Three more stone viaducts follow, the railway enters deep forest and begins to climb. It passes the former Majdán station and passes through the Nátra valley, from here the train begins to climb a 20‰ slope. The next stop is Dobrei station. It crosses a narrow and deep valley, through a loop and a high embankment, passes through the first tunnel and reaches the Lișava railway station across the valley of the Lișava stream. The Maniel tunnel follows, crossing the watershed between the Dobrei and Jitin valleys. Just beyond the tunnel is the Ciudanoviţa stop with another former uranium mine. Here begins the most interesting part of the route and the wildest mountain nature in the Jitin Valley. With a long loop to the south, the railway crosses the valley and gains the necessary height. In a short section, the train passes through two tunnels, over an arched viaduct and three more tunnels. After a short journey through the forest, the Izvor tunnel follows and a long arc turns the railway towards the exit from the forest. Following the mountain pastures with an impressive view, the train heads towards the Gârliște station. After passing the Gârliște tunnel, the longest on the route, the train turns south, further along the plateau, through pastures to the valley of the Gârliște stream. The train re-enters the forest and up a steep grade with long sections on retaining walls, through four short tunnels and over the last arched viaduct approaches Anina. The last two km pass by the ruins of coal mines.
