Many people still have difficulty analyzing the operational amplifier when it is configured in some way to perform a certain function in an electronic circuit. In the first video of this series I will show you that, in order to understand how the operational amplifier works, it is necessary to understand how the differential amplifier works. This is the great truth. The simple operational amplifier, like the 741 for example, consists of eight terminals, but in electrical diagrams its symbol only includes five terminals, which are: Non-inverting input; Inverting input; Output 1; Positive power supply; Negative power supply. The other three pins, since they are not constantly used in electronic circuits, are not included in the component symbology. They are: Off set null; Output 2. The operational amplifier is composed of several differential amplifiers inside it, but the most important one for understanding how it works is the differential amplifier that is at its input. The differential amplifier is the basis for the operational amplifier's operation, which is why you should become familiar with its operating mode if you want to learn how to analyze how the operational amplifier works. The differential amplifier is composed of two transistors with the same electrical characteristics, polarized by base and collector resistors that have the same resistive values. The base resistors place the transistors at equal Q points, thus determining the collector current and collector voltage of the transistors. Another point to note is the presence of the emitter resistor, which "distances" the transistors' emitters from the circuit's ground, causing the conduction of both to be conditioned by the change in the voltage drop stored between the resistor terminals. When biased only with direct current, the differential amplifier remains in balance (like a scale or seesaw) and no changes are recorded at its output pin. In this first video, I will show the differential amplifier biased only by the direct voltage of the power supply. In video 2 of this series, I will explain how the differential amplifier behaves when we bias its non-inverting input with an alternating signal. I hope that by the end of this video you will understand how the differential amplifier works when biased by DC voltage and that its output does not record any changes.
