Since the beginning of 2022, six police officers have been patrolling the streets of Kiel on e-bikes, in all weathers, day and night. The operational area of the two-man teams extends across the entire city. Fights, thefts, drug checks or arson are just as much a part of their everyday life as traffic checks on the cycle paths. Large events such as demonstrations can often be accompanied and secured much more easily by bike than by car. The bicycle police are often the first on the scene. With their pedelecs, the officers can take completely different routes through the city than their colleagues in patrol cars. On footpaths, through parks or narrow alleys, no problem for the bicycle squad.
