On the first day of our short vacation in August, we visited one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Palatinate Forest, the Orensfels. The tour, which is about 9 km and about 280 meters in altitude, started at the forest car park in 76833 Frankweiler in the Southern Wine Route district in Rhineland-Palatinate. First we went a bit up the mountain on beautiful forest paths to the first great view at the Ringelsberghütte, from which you have a great view of the Rhine plain, the Odenwald and the Black Forest. The following path led us further through the forest and after about 4 km we reached the famous viewpoint, the Orensfels. The Orensfels offers a great view over the Palatinate Forest and the view across to Trifels Castle is breathtaking. Past the Landauer Hütte, we then went back downhill to the historic forest shower, which was built in the middle of the 19th century and offers a welcome cooling off on hot days, as the water has a temperature of between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius. We then walked a short distance back through the town and a few meters before we reached our starting point, we were once again treated to a wonderful view of the vineyards and the Rhine plain.
