The history of Antakya, the central district of Hatay, dates back to 300 BC. The centuries-old mosques and churches in Antakya, which has seen several major earthquakes, could not withstand the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6. One of the places where the earthquakes caused the most destruction was the Antakya district of Hatay, which is full of historical and cultural heritage. The earthquakes dealt a blow not only to the historical artifacts and symbolic structures of the old city, but also to the ancient culture that these structures represented. Researcher and author Ünal Kahraman from Hatay spoke to BBC Turkish about the destroyed artifacts, the history of these artifacts and the Antakya culture that accompanied them.
