From the Basilica of the Santi Quattro Coronati in Rome, Sister Roberta Vinerba comments on the Gospel of Sunday, July 21, 2024, the XVI Sunday of Ordinary Time. This Sunday's Gospel is an encounter between excitement and rest. It is the Sunday of the return. The rest of the missionaries is the heart of Jesus. The mission is to stay with Him. The Gospel helps us understand which is the place that truly gives us rest. Scripture is the place in which we are called to compare life with the Word, capable of illuminating the darkest and most hidden places of our heart. The fruit of the dialogue between the Apostles and Jesus is rest. Rest is not leisure, but it is love. Rest is the relationship full of joy and adoration with God but it is also the relationship full of care and reciprocity with others. Today we are gripped by a weariness of the soul that requires this rest. Staying with Jesus is our mission. Sister Roberta Vinerba, through the film “Patch Adams”, reminds us that Jesus has compassion for each of us just as he had for the Twelve.
