Petra and Thomas Fäh run the Notkersegg farm in the city of St. Gallen. They lease the farm from the Notkersegg monastery and run a traditional dairy farm. They have recently started carrying out on-farm killings. The animals are killed on the farm, in their familiar surroundings, thus saving them the transport to the slaughterhouse. This is very stressful for many animals, as they hear new noises and other animals on the way and in the farm. Trigger warning: The video shows a cow being stunned with a bolt gun and then killed by a cut. Blood can be seen. The Waidwerker company from Appenzell is the only service provider in eastern Switzerland that carries out on-farm and pasture killings. Damian Signer founded the company after on-farm killings were permitted in Switzerland four years ago. In the canton of St. Gallen there are currently three farms with a provisional permit and 16 with a permanent permit. The Notkersegg farm is the first farm in the city of St. Gallen with a permit. We were allowed to accompany Damian Signer and Petra Fäh on a farm slaughter in the morning. Afterwards Petra Fäh showed us around the farm and gave us an insight into her work. Damian Signer brought the killed cattle to a slaughterhouse in Appenzell, where they have to be processed within a specified time period. Damian Signer and the Waidwerker company as well as Petra and Thomas Fäh are trying to do something for animal welfare through the farm slaughter. The fact that the animals are slaughtered depends on the demand for milk. Veal is a by-product of the dairy industry, explains Petra Fäh in the video. She is committed to conscious meat consumption. **You want more FADEGRAD on your ears?** To the website: https://fadegrad-podcast.ch/ Listen to the podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/24sJw4s...
