In 1981, in front of regional heads throughout Indonesia, President Soeharto introduced the term “Democratic Party” for the first time. Throughout the New Order era, elections always produced the same winner, namely Golkar. The other two parties, PPP and PDI, were nothing more than political accessories. In July 2023, 42 years after Soeharto, Jokowi repeated Soeharto’s statement that the election was a “Democratic Party.” For more than a year, Watchdoc has documented various events related to the 2024 Election to get clarity on what kind of “Democratic Party” Jokowi meant.
