As part of a “Railway Adventure World” tour, Markus Albinger from the Öchsle Railway takes participants behind the scenes of Württemberg’s last narrow-gauge railway and explains steam operations first-hand. On the Ochsenhausen train station grounds and in the historic engine shed from 1899, reports are given on both the eventful history of Öchsle and current operations. On the one-hour journey to Warthausen, participants experience the traditional “Mallet” type locomotive 99 633 in action. In Warthausen, standard gauge freight wagons were once transferred to the 750 mm gauge of the Öchsle Railway using rolling blocks. In the modern Öchsle engine shed from 2005, it is shown where the locomotives are heated up for operation and where most of the maintenance and repair work is carried out. Photos: Öchsle Railway
