The Constitutional Court (MK) made a surprise in early 2025 by removing the presidential threshold provision for presidential and vice presidential nominations. According to the Constitutional Court, this rule is unconstitutional because it is contrary to the political rights and sovereignty of the people as guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution. The Constitutional Court delivered this decision on Thursday (02/01) after trying four cases related to the judicial review of Article 222 of Law No. 7/2017 concerning general elections. In essence, the article stipulates that presidential and vice presidential candidates can only be nominated by parties or coalitions of parties that have at least 20% of the number of DPR seats or have obtained 25% of the national valid votes in the previous legislative election. #presidentialthreshold #threshold #presidentialcandidate #constitutionalcourt #beritasatu Make sure you subscribe and activate the bell button to get the latest video notifications from BeritaSatu.
