Quotes and excerpts from the book “A Marvelous Garland of Rare Gems” by Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche. Born in eastern Tibet (Derge), Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche, or Jamyang Dorje (1931 - 1999) was a great meditation master of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. At the age of five, Khenpo was taken to a local Sakya monastery. At the age of eight, he enrolled in the monastery and learned to read and write, but was given the task of tending the sheep. Wanting to receive a better religious education, at the age of twelve, Khenpo went to Nyoshul to receive teachings in Dzogchen and Mahāmudrā. At Nyoshul, he studied and underwent traditional training for twelve years, until the age of twenty-four. He later moved to Katok, where he continued his studies with other lamas. Always combining his studies with meditation retreats and intensive practice, Khenpo counted twenty-five great masters as his main teachers, the most central of whom was Shedrup Tenpe Nyima. After completing his formal studies, Khenpo was appointed abbot and taught philosophy to the young monks of the monastery for several years. In 1959, Nyoshul fled the communist occupation of Tibet and lived in exile in India and Bhutan. In the early 1970s, while staying in Kalimpong, Jamyang Dorje fell ill and his nervous system was severely damaged for several years. Although he survived, he often had trouble with his voice and could not speak above a whisper. When he gave instructions, it was often whispered into the ears of his students or written on a piece of paper. Nyoshul was the teacher of many of the current generation of Dzogchen masters, including Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Mingyur Rinpoche, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Sogyal Rinpoche, and others. In fact, it is said that there are few contemporary lamas who have not received Dzogchen teachings from Nyoshul Khenpo. Learn more at: https://rodadodarma.com.br/conheca-ny... ???? In it there is nothing to be removed, Nor anything that needs to be added. It is just the immaculate Looking naturally into itself”. Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche. “Distracted, we lose ourselves in lassitude. Distracted, we give vent to all faults. Distraction achieves no purpose. Distraction is like a pile of garbage. Distraction is floating in lakes of urine. Distraction is like a heartless corpse.” Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche. “We exhaust ourselves in three ways: We create fabrications as mental concepts. We make too much effort. And we create too many objects or targets in our minds. These are the three things that really tire us. It’s like an insect caught in a spider’s web: the more agitated it gets, the more it gets caught in the web. This creates real suffering, real torment for the mind.” Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche.
