Everyone wants to grow old, but no one wants to be old. How do we provide for the growing group of 'old folks' of today and tomorrow? VPRO Tegenlicht goes in search of thinkers and doers who do not shy away from the gray wave of tomorrow. The Netherlands is on the edge of a gray wave. If nothing changes, a third of the population will be gray, in need of care and looking for a suitable form of housing in 2040. The current generation of elderly people can no longer be hidden away in large centers on the edge of the city. Alternative ideas and examples of how we can live at home better and longer are emerging all over the country. Many elderly people prefer to live for themselves for as long as possible in their familiar - spacious - paid-off home. However, that is not always possible, because the home is becoming inaccessible and care is far away.
