In our specific case, we show you the NTC sensor of a washing machine and explain how it works. With the help of a multimeter, you could then check whether this temperature sensor is still intact. Especially if your washing machine does not heat sporadically or if you have the feeling that something has changed in the program duration or the cleaning result, then it is often worth testing the NTC temperature sensor first and replacing it if in doubt. This sensor measures the ambient temperature in the washing machine, specifically it measures the water temperature by reducing its resistance as the temperature of the sensor increases. These resistance values ​​are in turn stored in the control unit as fixed values. This allows the washing machine to decide when and for how long it needs to heat and when not. If the temperature sensor is defective, this can also lead to the heating system failing completely. In addition to the temperature sensor, the heating element itself, the supply lines to the NTC sensor, the supply lines to the heating element or even the heating relay on the control unit can also be defective.
