When spring comes here, full-scale jaridom fishing begins. Jaridom is caught from April to July, but now, before the barley ripens, is the most delicious time. Jaridom is a fish that stays in one place all its life without moving far, and is named as such because it 'circles the place'. In the past, it was considered an unappealing fish and was enjoyed only by Jeju people, but now it is popular as a representative fish that symbolizes Jeju as word of mouth spreads among tourists visiting Jeju. Every morning at 5:30, jaridom fishing boats go out to work, cutting through the dawn sea of Jeju. Jaridom fishing is a team of four boats, including the main boat, two auxiliary boats, and a transport boat, with 8 to 9 crew members working together. Four fishing boats move in unison according to the strategy instructed by the captain. In the blue Jeju sea, a red net is cast and awaits the passing of the bream. The captain, who has been fighting a game of wits with the bream while staring at the fish finder, finally sends a signal that the bream has landed... In the Jeju weather that changes its face several times a day, the crew catches the bream while fighting against the wind and rain. The bream that is loaded onto the transport ship is directly traded at Bomok Port. The water temperature is still low, so the catch of bream is low, and the supply cannot meet the demand. As a result, you can see customers at Bomok Port holding black plastic bags and begging to sell bream. The bream, a precious fish that filled the stomachs of Jeju people during the difficult Borigogae. It was known as a common fish because it was caught in large quantities and was easy to eat, but it has recently become a gold mine.
