Wojciech Prokopiuk, deals with the production of shingles, roofing with shingles. He tries to preserve old methods of woodworking. On his farm he collects traditional tools, has a Sawmill workshop, where he demonstrates the work of sawmills (manual sawing of wood with a Sawmill saw). In his many years of activity, he draws information about old construction methods from the book "Roboty ciesielskie, stolarskie i dekarskie. Poradnik ścieśli wiejskiego" (Cinderella, Stolarskie and Roofing Works. Village Carpenter's Guide), authored by S. Olczak, W. Jędrejek, W. Wiater. This book accompanies him throughout his professional life. He uses it primarily when performing roofing work, but he also draws information from the book about other old technologies used in the construction of wooden buildings. In the interview, he shows and tells how to make a log or board from round wood. Our interviewee emphasizes that "it's good that this modernity has arrived. It's easy, you don't have to push people, you have two hands and you're cutting". Cutting one board ("one shingle") on a band saw takes 2-3 minutes. One person is needed to operate it. The traditional method takes about 30 minutes. It requires hard physical work by two or three people. Then he shows how traditional shingles are made and how they are used to cover a roof. As the interviewee says, the durability of shingles is "maybe less than today's metal roof tiles, but it is nature, wood, ecology, and we are probably heading in that direction". He emphasizes that "we are returning to natural coverings". This return is possible thanks to craftsmen who, although using modern tools, have preserved a method of making shingles that is similar to the traditional one.
