In extensive tests, star chef Nelson Müller investigates what tastes better: the original or the imitation? He also shows what the quality of the products is like and why we often choose the more expensive products despite cheaper alternatives. In this episode, star chef Nelson Müller looks at the German breakfast. He puts well-known brands such as Nutella, Kellogg's and Kerrygold to the test. He is supported by 100 test subjects who are supposed to find out taste differences in a large test. The blind tasting shows that the no-name brands can often keep up. They compete against each other: Nutella against the chocolate cream from Tip, the taste winner of the Stiftung Warentest. Nutella recently changed its recipe and replaced expensive ingredients with cheaper ones. Does the spread still taste better than the cheap no-name product? Kerrygold butter advertises itself as being made from high-quality pasture milk - but does that justify the significant price premium? After all, Irish butter is now available at almost all discount stores. Our breakfast cereals also have to undergo a quality test: are they crispy - or do they quickly become mushy? The laboratory test for the weed killer glyphosate is a surprise. Product developer Sebastian Lege demonstrates how the popular ready-made croissants from Knack&Back are made - and what pure alcohol has to do with it. https://tv.orf.at/orf3/stories/2994775/ (c) 2019, ZDF
