Niala Agrafon, a historical place A production of the Eutopian Library, November 2020. A documentary has as a point of reference the tragic events that happened in the neck of Niala on April 12-13, 1947 and resulted in the first phase of death, in in the blizzard, civilians pursued by the National Army, rebels of the Democratic Army and also soldiers of the National Army, while in the second phase the arrest of several rebels and civilians, the sentencing to death and finally the execution of six of them in Lamia. This tragic fact of the recent history of our country is traced in a special way. In 1977, a group of friends, led by the DSE rebel and survivor of the events in Niala, Vassilis Fitsilis, set out on a long-hour hike to locate the spot where the persecuted civilians and DSE rebels met with the force of the National Army on Niala's neck. At this point, a year later, Vassilis Fitsilis, together with fellow DSE rebel Kosmas Souffla, will erect a monument that is still a point of reference for the historicity of the place. The documentary includes previously unpublished film footage taken by one of the hikers at the time, Damianos Hatzikokkinos. In these shots, where the neck of Niala still has no road access, only narrow paths for animals and people, the greatness of the Agrafos is recorded. The testimonies of three of that group (Vassilis Phytsilis, George Zacharopoulos and Damiamos Chatzikokinos), take us back in time. Today, the neck of Niala, this sacred and mythical place, is in danger of total destruction, like so many others in the country, with its conversion into an industrial wind power plant. This particular documentary comes to emphasize the primary importance of defending its historicity, in the context of a constant struggle of memory against oblivion._
