Most new buildings also have underfloor heating installed. A screed is laid at the end of the construction phase. The two predominant systems are coarse-pored cement screed and flowing screed. The latter is also called anhydrite screed or calcium sulphate screed. Screed and floor covering are two important components that you have to coordinate with one another. Good communication between the trades such as screed fitters, heating engineers and floor fitters is important. When laying screed, pay attention to the following: • The installation height. This must be coordinated with the window fitter and floor fitter, among others. Ideally, you should plan the height of the screed depending on the thickness of the floor you have chosen. • Sanding. Anhydrite screed in particular must be sanded down urgently. It forms a sintered layer that is soft. It cannot absorb glued floors. It also prevents the screed from drying out. • Flatness. Please ensure that the floor is level before laying a new floor. This is because the requirements for a floor fitter are often stricter than for a screed fitter. The screed is prone to buckling around the edges. This means that the floor covering is not level. Also pay attention to paint residue and paint blobs that are several millimeters thick. These must be removed with suitable scrapers. • The residual moisture. A screed always contains a lot of water. Depending on the construction progress and the weather, it dries at different speeds. If accelerators have not been added, it can sometimes take months until the required values ​​are reached. • The protocols. Have you installed underfloor heating? Then you definitely need the heating protocol, which the heating engineer signs for you. This guarantees that the screed has expanded to the maximum and will no longer crack. However, the residual moisture can still be too high afterwards. That is why a moisture measurement is the right procedure. Currently, the only moisture measurement that a court will recognize in the event of a dispute is the properly carried out CM measurement.
