When a Korean film crew shot a piano scene on a jetty on Lake Brienz in 2019, the people in the tranquil fishing mountain village of Iseltwald had no idea of their misfortune. But since the romantic piano scene became world famous on Netflix, Iseltwald has been overrun by tourists from all over the world. For Mike Lagrisola, a dream comes true as he queues in front of the jetty in Iseltwald, Switzerland. He is a fan of the Netflix series "Crash Landing On You," which was filmed in the Bernese Oberland and is now attracting a rush of tourists, mostly of Asian descent. A romantic piano scene on the jetty in the streaming provider's series was the trigger why the village of Iseltwald has been overrun by tourists from all over the world since the end of the pandemic. Local residents are angry because the short-term visitors "come here for a photo on Instagram and leave nothing but garbage behind." The municipality has therefore installed a turnstile in front of the jetty, where tourists now have to pay five francs entry. Anger at "global short-term tourism" is growing in Switzerland - even in idyllic Lauterbrunnen. The village street is often overcrowded because thousands of people a day want to take a photo in front of the picturesque waterfall for just a few minutes. It is not uncommon for tourists to break into private houses - looking for a toilet. Some also take photos on and of the graves in the cemetery. The cultural difference between the Alpine residents and the visitors causes friction. The report accompanies Mike Lagrisola and his family on a guided tour in the footsteps of the Netflix series and shows the increasing tensions in Switzerland, where the record number of visitors is dividing opinions.
