In the 30th episode of MF Cast, we have the presence of Antonio Carlos de Souza, a renowned judge of the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ), consultant and veterinarian with a notable history in the world of livestock. Antonio Carlos' story is intrinsically linked to livestock. His family has always been involved in agriculture, since his great-grandfather, founder of the city of Palmital, located in the interior of Paraná. Growing up in an environment of farms and rural properties, he cultivated a strong passion for livestock, working alongside his father and grandfather. With the dream of following this path, Antonio Carlos sought the necessary training, starting with a technical course in agriculture and, later, graduating in veterinary medicine. At the age of 18, he began his career working with the Simental breed, around 1992. However, it was in 1998 that he had the opportunity to enter the world of Nelore at the renowned Oriente Farm, located in Rio de Janeiro. There, he managed farms for a period, until he decided to dedicate himself to consulting on selective cattle and beef cattle, an activity he still does today. During the interview, Antonio Carlos highlighted his affinity for the track and how he considers the eye to be the most important tool for selecting cattle. It was this interest in selecting and judging animals that inspired him to pursue a career as a judge. After successfully completing the judge course, he soon received the first invitation to participate in his first show in Acre. Due to his technical competence, he was subsequently invited to participate in several other shows throughout Brazil. During the episode, Antonio Carlos addressed the significant importance of Nelore cattle, not only for Brazil, but for the global livestock scenario. He also provided an in-depth technical analysis of the breed, discussing the changes that have occurred in the judging criteria over time, the challenges faced in the current rankings, and the improvements that he considers essential for ABCZ to adopt.
