The dirty-faced parakeet is one of the jewels of the Atlantic Forest of Ceará! With its reddish face contrasting with the white, this unique bird, endemic to the humid forests of the Northeast, was on the brink of extinction, but today it is an example of overcoming and conservation. Thanks to the Dirty-faced Project, by Aquasis, hundreds of nest boxes were installed in the forests, helping to increase the population of the species. In addition, the exciting 5th Dirty-faced Parakeet Census, with the participation of 230 volunteers, provided important data on the recovery of the bird in the wild. Another milestone of the project was the reintroduction of the birds in the Serra de Aratanha and Serra das Almas, areas where the bird was extinct. And it doesn't stop there: soon, the dirty-faced parakeets will have new release areas. This is an inspiring story of how joint efforts can save species from extinction and return to nature what should never have been lost.
